I would like to introduce myself to our Nevada Center for Public Ethics (NCPE) members and all those who visit our NCPE website.  In 1999 I had the privilege of entering the Ethics and Policy Studies Program at UNLV which was under the direction of Dr. Craig Walton.  I enjoyed getting to know him and learning from him.  Dr. Walton later became the chair of my thesis committee.  The title of my thesis was “Organizational Ethics And Maintaining An Ethical Environment Through Employee Involvement.” I was graduated in 2004 with a Masters Degree in Ethics and Policy Studies. Julie Tousa

I remained on Dr. Walton’s email list and received an email from him in 2005 regarding the start-up of a grass-roots-effort ethics committee.  I immediately joined his Nevada Center for Public Ethics (NCPE) and attended the first general meeting in December of 2005.  I had a desire to be on the board of trustees so I could see firsthand what the NCPE was all about.  I was elected to the board for a 1-year term and when that term expired in 2006, Dr. Walton asked me to the serve a 3-year term which began in January 2007.

I got my Masters Degree in Ethics so that I would have the opportunity to make improvements in my community and hold those accountable who participate in inappropriate and unethical behavior.  Unfortunately we have all seen numerous cases of unethical decisions among our politicians and our organizations in Nevada, most of them having ethics programs or codes of ethics in place that are not followed.

Dr. Walton did a wonderful job building relationships in the community and networking with those who also desire to have a more ethical Nevada.  The NCPE board of trustees and I have the desire to continue what Dr. Walton began.  We invite you to join us in our efforts to continue Dr. Walton’s work.  Together we can make a difference.
