ORGANIZING PRINCIPLES OF THE NEVADA CENTER FOR PUBLIC ETHICS The Nevada Center for Public Ethics (NCPE) will bring together former public officials, educators and scholars, the legal community, business leaders, clergy, policy experts and concerned citizens, in order to share ideas and provide information concerning high standards of ethics in Nevada’s public sphere generally, and particularly with respect to appointed and elected government officials at all levels. Influences brought to bear on public officials will also be considered as coming within the sphere of public ethics. The NCPE is a non-partisan, non-profit center for research, education and recommendation in the field of public ethics. It seeks and will publish studies and confirmed information concerning good and bad uses of the public’s trust. Where an act or an existing standard of practice is honest, NCPE will develop ways to recognize and praise the persons and units involved. The NCPE will not compete with journalists investigating these issues, but will follow up on their work by looking more widely and deeply where particular issues or cases need more extensive research and comparison with other jurisdictions or communities. The NCPE will develop and offer to city, county and state government entities workshops in public ethics, based upon NRS 281 (“Ethics in Government”) and related statutes as well as case studies and Nevada Commission on Ethics findings. Its membership is open to any adult citizen - and to youth as well – willing to work toward the three Mission goals. The NCPE will work with other associations and centers locally, in other states, and of national scope, which seek the same goals. The Nevada Center for Public Ethics will take no positions on policy matters which are not directly relevant to questions of public ethics. Thus, the NCPE will not take stands on other social and political issues, such as raising or lowering taxes, how much money should be spent on education, or issues such as health care, gaming, social spending, etc. Click below to read more About NCPE
