NewsAbout NCPE

ORGANIZATION

A nonpartisan, non-profit corporation organized to serve the public interest, the NCPE will play several roles:

(1) Think-tank for research and policy analysis concerning public ethics questions;

(2) Source of information concerning public ethics issues for the media, both externally (television, radio, newspapers, etc.) and via NCPE’s own internally-produced media (newsletter, website, etc.);

(3) Advocacy through the media and public forums to promote high standards of public ethics in Nevada government;

(4) Production of instructional materials and development of workshops to train and orient Nevada’s elected and appointed government officials in public ethics issues; and

(5) Establishment of limited programs of academic scholarships for Nevada students to study in the fields of government, public administration, law and public ethics.

The NCPE will be governed by a Board of Trustees comprised of respected leaders in academics, the legal community, public service, the clergy, business, media, the non-profit sector, and the faith-based sector, as well as former elected and former appointed officials from each of the three branches of government. All important policy decisions made by the group shall first be debated among the Board of Trustees, and in the event that the Trustees do not reach a unanimous decision, shall be voted on by the Trustees before the decision is implemented. A simple majority vote of the Trustees shall decide such important policy questions.

The Board of Trustees will be headed by four or five officers: a President, one or two Vice-Presidents, an Executive Secretary and a Treasurer. The President, or a person designated by the President with the support of the Trustees, shall serve as the public spokesperson for the NCPE.

The Board of Trustees shall receive advice and counsel from the Board of Advisors, to be nominated by the President and approved by the Trustees. The Board of Advisors shall consist of individuals with similar professional backgrounds to the Trustees, but may also include elected officials (e.g., legislators and judges) who are currently serving terms in office. Apart from its advisory role, the Board of Advisors shall have no official capacity to make decisions or speak for the NCPE.
