The Nevada Center for Public Ethics (NCPE) hosted a Town Hall meeting open to the public on Jan. 6, 2007 from 11 am - 12:30 pm. at the Flamingo Library's theater. The meeting was co-sponsored by NCPE and the Las Vegas / Clark County Library District. The purpose was to discuss ethics proposals to be considered by the 2007 Nevada legislature. There is nationwide distress over corruption in government, and we have ethics scandals, convictions, and failures by elected and appointed officials and judges in Nevada concerning disclosure of their financial interests and their duty to place the public above those interests. The chances for better laws and better behavior will hinge on how strongly we citizens cooperate toward ethics improvement. Legislators Sen. Steven Horsford (D), Assemblyman Dr. Joe Hardy (R), & Assemblyman Marcus Conklin (D) , and the President of NCPE Dr. Craig Walton, presented and discussed proposals for 2007 ethics legislation. The Town Hall Meeting was moderated by Mitch Fox of Vegas PBS (Channel 10).
